2nd Avenue Subway Art
2nd Avenue Subway Art
Join us on a local excursion through the art-filled stations of the Second Avenue Subway. Christened on New Year’s Day 2017, the Q Line runs under 2nd Ave, from 96th St. to 72nd St., and the large-scale art adorning its passageway and stairwell walls comprise the largest permanent public art installation in the history of New York State. Public art consultant Emily Blumenfeld, whose career includes six years as Community Art Manager for Metro Arts in St. Louis, will guide us along our four-stop jaunt that features energetic and witty work by seasoned artists Sarah Sze, Chuck Close, Vik Muniz and Jean Shen. At 72nd St., we will be joined by independent curator Erica Behrens, who will discuss the extensive installation by Muniz and enlighten us with her experience working with the artist on the final project.
